David Cameron has vowed to take the fight on red tape surrounding employment law to the EU, reports the BBC. His actions come as a result of a report compiled by some the country’s most high-profile business leaders, which found that red tape is costing UK firms billions of pounds.
The report outlines arguments on why European employment law is a key concern for smaller businesses. It calls for the requirement for all SMEs, irrespective of their business, to keep written health and safety assessments to be scrapped, and for plans for a cap on fees for payment by credit card, online and mobile phone to be fast-tracked amongst other recommendations.
“This report makes clear that there are lots of simple and practical ways to cut EU red tape and save businesses across Europe tens of billions of euros,” the prime minister said.
